At this summer’s IAMLE board retreat, board members had the great fortune of reading about the many awesome learning opportunities that Iowa educators want to provide for their students. IAMLE is providing grants to the following four schools to help them turn their ideas into reality.

Waverly-Shell Rock JRHS
Awarded $1280.00
Project Name: Interdisciplinary Curriculum with Technology Integration
Waverly Shell-Rock JRHS has been making a concerted effort to move from a junior-high based philosophy to a middle-school philosophy. This year they will be focusing on creating interdisciplinary curriculum that has technology integrated within it. One unit described in the grant is based on the water quality of the Cedar River. Items purchased with the grant money that will facilitate this unit include an LCD projector and handheld microscope.
Shell Rock Elementary
Awarded $400.00
Project Name: Fast Track
Fast Track is an after school program serving 5th and 6th graders. Goals of the
program include providing academic, social, emotional, and behavior support for
identified students, and strengthening relations between these students, their
parents, and school staff. Funds provided will be used to purchase instructional
supplies, materials, and nutritional items.
Sergeant Bluff-Luton Middle School
Awarded $563.00
Project Name: Reading Olympics
The purpose of Reading Olympics is to encourage children to read more than they
currently do, to read a greater variety of books, and to enjoy the excitement of
reading and talking about books. Funds will be used to purchase Reading Olympic
journals for students, Accelerated Reader tests, and small awards.
Bettendorf Middle School
Awarded $340.00
Project Name: SOUP
SOUP is an extra-curricular group with the purpose of developing strategies to
create a warmer school climate and decreasing the amount of bullying and
harassment in the building. The intent is for students to be more successful
academically as a result of their feelings of acceptance and belonging. Supplies
for meetings and student t-shirts will be purchased with the funds.
Learn more about these great projects at your local IAMLE conference and/or at the Midwest Regional Conference in Omaha. All award recipients will present at least once to share their great ideas with others.
The board would like to thank all the schools that applied, and encourage you to continue to seek assistance from IAMLE as you make a difference for young adolescents.
